Police SC humble CR & FC 11-10 [June 10 2011]

Sri Lanka Police Sports Club created the first major upset this season when they edged out last year’s runners up CR and FC 11-10 in their Caltex inter club ‘A’ division league rugby tournament match worked off at the Police Park today.

Police SC played a terrific game from the kick off and turned the game in their favour while collecting their points from one try and two penalties. CR and FC who led 10-8 at half time responded with two unconverted tries.

Centre Priyantha Ekenayake was the match winner for Police SC with two crucial penalties after prop forward Malith Hettiarachchi had scored their solitary try in the first half. CR and FC of course minus some of their key players scored both tries in the first half through scrum half Srinath Sooriyabandara. Both tries went unconverted and that turned out to be costly as they went down by a solitary point.
