Polls in 64 LG bodies on July 23

<p>Elections for 64 Local Government bodies of the remaining 67 will be held on July 23.

<p>Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya postponed the election of three Local Government bodies in Chilaw, Muhudubadapattu and Pudukudiiruppu. These elections were postponed due to legal and security reasons.

<p>Postal voting for the 64 Local Government bodies will be held on July 12.

<p>The government won 205 of the 234 Local Government bodies in April. The Illankai Tamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK) secured second place by winning 12 Local Government bodies while the UNP won nine.

<p>The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress won 4, National Congress 2, The Upcountry People’s Front 1 while an Independent Group won one LG body.
