The Government is to increase the domestic sugar production to 40% by 2020 to cut down the cost of import which was around US$ 248 million in 2009.
The sugar recovery rate and average cane yield will also be increased to 20% and 40% respectively by establishing improved varieties,better management practices and modern technology.
