Parliament to recommend a political package for N/E [June 14 2011]

The government is to appoint an All-Party Select Committee to draft a political solution to address the issues in the North and East, soon.

According to informed sources, President Mahinda Rajapaksa would request the Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa to appoint the Committee. He has taken this decision following a request made by some political party leaders including Minister Douglas Devananda to appoint a Committee to prepare a political solution to the North-East issues.

The Parliament would be given two weeks to appoint the committee and the members will be given a limited time to make their recommendations.
