Army to hunt deserters [June 17 2011]

Army has commenced an islandwide operation to take over 40,000 army deserters in to custody.

Military spokesperson Major General Ubaya Mediwala said they had given time to surrender to quit the Army. " Several special teams had already been deployed, and they will be arested soon", he said.

According to the Spokesman, the highest number of deserters reported from the North-Central, Southern and Uva Provinces. " But this time we will round up them throughout the country", he said.
