Army and Police to probe attack on TNA meeting [June 22 2011]

Two separate investigations are on to probe Thursday’s attack by a group of persons dressed in Army uniform on a meeting that was being held among Tamil National Alliance (TNA) members in Alaveddy, Jaffna.

Jaffna Security Forces Commander Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe told the Sunday Observer online that he ordered a team of army officers of the Military Police to investigate the matter as the allegations were leveled against the army for attacking the meetings. " There is no involvement by the Army soldiers but need to find out the culprits", he said.

Meawnhile, the police has also launched a separate investigation into the matter.

The TNA claimed that a group of 30 soldiers forcibly entered the hall, where they had discussed matters regarding upcoming local polls and attacked them.
