Sri Lanka’s development has shifted from urban centered to village levels July 23 2011

Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga has said that a massive development has taken place covering each and every area in Sri Lanka after eradicating terrorism, and the urban-centred development has been expanded to the village level after 2005. He has said that at present, the villagers are enjoying the benefits of the development projects.

He has described the President’s decision to hold Dayata Kirula exhibition in the Anuradhapura district next year as a timely decision. Under this programme, infrastructure facilities 22 divisional secretariat divisions in the district and the Wanni Divisional Secretariat Division will be developed. A fully fledged library will be set up in each school in each selected divisional secretariat division.

He has said that the Defence Secretary plays a major role in the development activities with the assistance provided Civil Defence Task Force. The Colombo city is becoming a fully fledged and glamorous metropolis. The Mahamewnawa in the Anuradhapura has also been developed.

Referring to the Divinaguma programme, he has said that the programme is successfully in progress, and many people now obtain the fresh food and fruits from their own gardens as a result of this programme.

He pointed out that the common feature of the brothers in the Rajapaksa family is their ability to identify the heart beats of the common people. The President Secretary stressed the need to implement the concept of productivity in each household.

He has further said that everyone has the responsibility to make Sri Lanka the wonder of Asia. The local government heads have been entrusted with executive powers by the Local government Act to serve the public at the regional level. He has pointed out that the expectation of the President is to make every person equipped with the skills of trilingual proficiency by the year 2020.
