The ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance took 45 more local government bodies under its control after Saturday’s leg of elections to the balanced Town Councils and Prsadeshiya Sabas. Out of the 75 LG bodies for which the elections were held yesterday, the UPFA secured control of 45 LG bodies.
After the latest convincing victory, the UPFA now controls 250 Local Government Institutions out of 335 LG bodies in the country. The UNP and the JVP failed to win a single LG body at Saturday’s elections. LG Elections in the Northern Province was held for 20 Bodies of which the governmen has secured victory in three bodies only. They are Kayts PS, Velanai PS and Delft PS. TULF has won two bodies, Pachchilaippalli PS and Poonakari PS in the Killinochchi District.
