An additional land extent of 100,000 hectares is expected to be cultivated by 2018 under the new water resource management program implemented by the Irrigation Ministry.
Most of these lands are in dry areas in the North, North Central, East, Uva, Wayamba and Southern Provinces. Required investment for new water resource development will be done by the government with the support from overseas countries.
