The war could have been finished earlier but due to external and internal pressures, it could not be achieved till 2009, the Deputy Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Berlin, Major General Jagath Dias said.
Former General Officer Commanding of the 57th Division of the Sri Lanka Army Major General addressing a gathering during his visit to the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Paris on July 22 said that the strong leadership and commitment of the President enabled the country to put an end to what is known as one of the longest wars against terrorism.
Pointing out that the situation had changed over the last few years he noted that Sri Lanka had overcome many challenges, both locally and internationally, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Paris said in a statement.
