IUCN to make Lanka its operational hub in South Asia [August 03 2011]

The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) plans to make Sri Lanka its operations centre for the South Asian region. The Asia Regional Director of the IUCN Aban Marker Kabraji met Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa today to discuss the possibilities of implementing this plan, a spokesperson for the ministry said.

IUCN to make Lanka its operational hub in South Asia Minister Yapa has given his verbal consent and official documentation and legal matters will be looked in to in the near future. In Asia, IUCN has offices in Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indo¬nesia, Lao Peoples Democratic Republic, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
