Killing of 17 aid workers: No need of another probe - Hulugalle [August 05 2011]

The government said there is no need to conduct another probe into the deaths of 17 aid workers in 2006 as it was already cleared through conducting an official inquiry.

Director General Media Centre for National Security Lakshman Hullugalle said the allegations leveled against the military for killing the 17 aid workers had been cleared by an official injuiry and found that the LTTE was responsible for their deaths.

" The case was closed and there was no need for another probe", he said.

However, the Human Rights Watch has recetnly accused the government for lack of actions to take legal action against the military.
