Vinivida, insurance scheme for scribes [August 06 2011]

The National Insurance Trust will launch an insurance scheme - Vinivida - for the media personnel on August 28, Chairman Senaka D. Abeygoonasekara said.

He said media personnel could enroll to the insurance scheme, which is similar to the Agrahara insurance for public servants, by paying a low monthly payment of Rs. 100. It provides an insurance coverage for the journalist, the spouse and their children.

" They also can apply for an additional insurance for their equipment like camera and laptops by increasing the monthly payment and a 30 percent deduction will be given for the insurance of their vehicles. Under this scheme, they will get many other benefits like hospital claims, medical charges, spectacles and funeral assistance", he said.

According to Abeygoonasekara, the public and private sector journalists who were issued identity cards by the Ministry of Media and Information, would be entitled to apply for the insurance scheme.
