Twenty-four people taken into custody in connection with the unrest in Kinniya which resulted in the attack on the Navy camp and a police jeep, were released today, according to Police Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody.
Their release comes in the wake of a large crowd surrounding the Kinniya Government Agent’s office earlier this morning, demanding the immediate release of those who were arrested by Kinniya Police. Two policemen and several civilians were injured following the tense situation that developed near the Naval camp last night after residents.
