Average economic growth of 6.4% from 2005-2010   [August 15 2011]

Sri Lanka’s economy has sustained an average growth of 6.4% during the period of 2005-2010 enabling the country to move its per capita income from US$ 1,241 in 2005 to US$ 2,399 in 2010. This is a creditable achievement as the country had been able to maintain an average economic growth of 6.4% even during the war against LTTE terrorism was at his peak from 2006 to May 2009.

The unemployment has declined to a lowest level of 4.9% from 7.2% in 2005. The people who live below the poverty line has decline from 15.6% in 2005/2006 to 7.2% in 2009/201 0.
