CMC to get tough on 300 eateries [August 20 2011]

The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) will take legal action against 300 eateries including some star hotels, within the Colombo city limits, for operating without for operating without licences from the CMC.

Dr. Pradeep Kariyawasam, the Chief Medical Officer of the CMC said it was compulsory for the any business engage in selling cooked food to meet the stipulated guidelines and to obtain a licence prior to operate the business.

" The CMC had issued licences to over 250 eateries and hotels comes under CMC purview and they need to adhere to a set of rules to continue with their business", he said.

He said, however, there were some hotels, which had not followed the specific procedure and running the business without liecences. " We will take legal action against them soon", he said.
