Japanese Yosakoi Dance in Peradeniya and Colombo [August 24 2011]

The Yosakoi Dance team will perform in Kandy and Colombo to enhance the friendly relations between two nations.

The Yosakoi Dance will feature Hokuto-gumi, which is an elite unit of Team Yamabiko, a Yosakoi dancing team which mainly performs at Kobe, Japan.

Yosakoi (which means come at night) is a unique style of dance which originated in Japan in the city of Kochi in 1954, as a modern rendition of Awa Odori, a traditional summer dance. The style of dance is highly energetic, combining traditional Japanese dance movements to modern music. The Japanese dance performances are part of the cultural events marked for the Japanese Cultural Month in August,

Organised by the Embassy of Japan together with the University of Peradeniya, Yosakoi Dance, will perform at the University of Peradeniya on August 25 and at the New Town Hall auditorium on August 27.
