India, Sri Lanka discuss on power devolution [September 24 2011]

President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Indian Premier Dr. Manmohan Singh, who held lengthy discussion on Friday eveing in New York, mainly discussed on devolution of power and progress in resettling displaced people in the North.

They met on the sidelines of the United National General Assembly session. President Rajapakse and Dr. Singh acknowledged the need to enhance cooperation in the political, economic and cultural spheres of the two Asian neighbours.

In recent years, the relationship between the two countries has been marked by close contacts at the highest political level, growing trade and investment, cooperation in the fields of development, education, culture and defence, as well as a broad understanding on major issues of international interest.

.During the conflict, India supported the right of the Sri Lankan government to act against terrorist forces.
