UNP invite Mano for talks on CMC [October 10 2011]

The UNP has made the first move to secure the support of Mano Ganeshan-led Democratic People’s Front (DPF) though the main opposition won  the elections to Colombo Municipal Council at Saturday’s Local Government elections. Sources close to Ganeshan said today that the DPF leader has already been invited for talks by the United National Party.

Ganeshan is due to hold talks with UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, deputy Karun Jayasuriya and Mayor-elect A.J.M. Muzzamil as the UNP is only eight seats ahead of the UPFA. The balance 11 seats, out of which DPF secured six, become a decisive factor in the power struggle at the CMC.

The UPFA has an outside chance of securing power with the support of the SLMC and DUA, in case a couple of UNP members crossover.
