Daily fine of Rs. 1000 for unauthorized coastal constructions

Sri Lankas Coast Conservation Department has announced that action is to initiated to fine the owners of unauthorized buildings on the islands coastal areas on a daily basis, untill they remove those buildings.  Accordingly Rs.1000 per day will be fined from the owners maintaining illegal buildings in the coastal areas.

India will oppose a Commonwealth report that seeks to establish a monitoring group for member countries on human rights, democracy and rule of law. At the Commonwealth summit in Perth this week, India is working the diplomatic levers to make the case that such groups are beyond the mandate of the 54-nation grouping. This might put India in the direct path of advocacy by western Commonwealth nations UK, Canada and Australia.

The worker remittance flows has posted a 27.8% increase to US$ 1,273.7 million in the first quarter of 2011 compared to same period of 2010 complemented by expansion of banking facilities, particularly the opening up of bank branches in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.
