Peru: Lanka explains about post conflict development [October 04 2011]

Deputy Minister Perera, having elaborated the post conflict development process in Sri Lanka including the humanitarian operations up to May 2009, and the ongoing work of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC), reiterated that the LLRC should be given the time and space to continue its work until the report is submitted.

He also stated that President Rajapakse established the LLRC on the principle of restorative justice, and focused on identifying the institutional and legislative measures which need to be implemented in order to prevent the recurrence of such conflicts in the future.

The Peruvian side stated that Peru understands the workings of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission as Peru also had to face political violence at the hands of the "shining path" movement.
