Australian PM praised Lankan Government [October 27 2011]

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard has praised the steps taken by the Sri Lankan government to prevent people smuggling and illegal immigration, according to the President’s Media Unit.

She has praised Sri Lanka’s efforts when President Mahinda Rajapaksa met her yesterday and discussed poverty alleviation and development.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa had pointed out to Prime Minister Gillard at the meeting that the accusations levelled against Sri Lanka are based on rumours.

He had also spoken about the current situation in the country, the Parliamentary Select Committee and the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission and thanked Australia’s assistance in resettling displaced people and de-mining activities.
