The Ministry of Health targets to eradicate rabies by 2016. According to Director of Public Health veterinary services Dr. P.A.L. Harischandra the number of deaths due to rabies has seen reduced significantly.
The deaths due to rabies which reported 49 last year have been reduced to 30 this year.
He said the reduction of rabies cases was mainly due to good public awareness campaigns and also the vaccination of dogs.
