Floods: Over 50,000 acres of paddy fields in Batticoloa submerged [November 26 2011]

Over 50,000 acres of paddy fields have been submerged due to heavy rain, yesterday, in the Batticaloa District and many low-lying areas in Trincomalee district are also under water. Due to overflowing water reservoirs in the Eastern Province, the transportation has become to standstill in many areas in the Province.

The Department of Irrigation sources said reservoirs in Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa districts are overflowing while the Mahaweli River is reaching the spill level.
