Police has identified the suspect who has been instrumental in recent murders of beggars but the motive behind is yet to be disclosed. A suspect responsible for murdering at least 12 street beggars was arrested in Mt. Lavinia. He was initially arrested under suspicion in connection to a drug racket, but when interrogated by police the suspect had disclosed about the killings.
He confessted that the murders had been carried out in Moratuwa, Kiribathgoda, Kollupitiya, Peliyagoda, Wellawatta, Kotahena, Mt. Lavinia and Kelaniya. It was disclosed that all 12 beggars were killed by hitting them on the head with heavy stones. Mt. Lavinia Police is conducting further investigations to uncover the motive behind the series of murders.
