Nearly 84,000 police officers rewarded [December 08 2011]

Leader of the house and Irrigation and Water Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva told the Parliament over Rs. 383 million has been granted to 83,896 police officers form the police Rewards Fund upto November this year.

A total of 637,682 Police Officers had been granted over Rs. 2293 million as rewards since 2005. At present Rs. 2,668 million is remaining in the Police Rewards Fund.

The Minister said the fund is enriched through the depositing of half or any other portion of the fines, which are being imposed by the courts for the suspects who are being taken into custody and produced before the courts by the police officers in the event of performing the duties in curbing the crimes and raids. The minister responding to an oral question raised by the UNP MP Dayasiri Jayasekera.
