During your reign of sixty years, the second longest for the British monarch,Your Majesty has given admirable leadership both to your country and the Commonwealth, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said in a felicitation message on the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeths accession to the throne of the United Kingdom.
"Your record of service to the country and people from the time you undertook public duties serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service during World War II has been of an exemplary nature and has continued to bring honour, respect and dignity to your high office," President said.
From the time Your Majestys accession four years after Sri Lanka obtained independence and joined the Commonwealth of Nations, we have had the best relations with the United Kingdom and have been closely associated with the Commonwealth, President further said.
