Rs. one million for each Grama  Niladari division [February 15 2012]

Ministry of Economic Development intends to grant one million rupees to implement one development project in each Grama  Niladari throughout the country.

This was revealed by Minister Basil Rajapaksa revealed at a meeting held to review the progress on "One Project for One Village" and "Pura Neguma" programmes was held under the patronage of Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Economic Development in the Hambantota District Secretariat yesterday.  

Project proposals of Local Government Members as well as Parliamentarians in the area will be selected for this purpose. The government has taken measures to select one village out of several developing villages and develop it to the level of a town under the Pura Neguma programme.  

Measures are being taken to develop 576 villages under ‘One Project for One Village’ programme and 4 villages under the Pura–neguma programme   in the Hambanthota district.  

Senior Minister A.H.M. Fowzie, Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils A. L. M. Athaulla,  Minister of Disaster Management, Mahinda Amaraweera, Chief Minister of Southern Province, Shan Wijayalal De Silva,   MP and Chairman of Hambantota District Development Committee, Namal Rajapaksa, Member of Parliament V.K. Indika,  also participated at this meeting
