Youth ship in SL after 17 years [February 16 2012]

The Ship for World Youth Fujimaru arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday after a lapse of nearly 17 years, National Youth Council sources said.

This service was inaugurated by the Japanese Government with a view to creating international cooperation and good qualities of leadership among the youth, according to the sources.

The ship arrived in Sri Lanka last in 1995 and due to the conflict situation in the country, it refrained from visiting Sri Lanka. After the dawn of peace in Sri Lanka it has arrived in Sri Lanka again, the sources said.

The arrangements to relating to the tour to Sri Lanka had been taken by Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister, Dullas Alahapperuma, Deputy Minister Duminda Dissanayake and National Youth Services Council Director General Lalith Piyum Perera.

There are 300 youth in this ship from 13 countries, the sources added.
