The Sri Lankan delegation, who left the country Wednesday to attend the 19th session of the United Nations Human Right Council in Geneva, Switzerland, says they have a well-organized plan to counteract the arguments against Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan delegation led by the Plantation Minister and Presidents special Human Rights envoy Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe comprises Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris, Minister of Irrigation Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Environment Anura Priyadarshana Yapa Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiyutheen and former Attorney General Mohan Peiris.
The delegation would meet with the diplomats of some of the 47 member states in the UNHRC ahead of the sessions that is scheduled to begin on Monday, February 27, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said.
The delegates expect to apprise the diplomats of Sri Lankas stance and the measures taken to implement the recommendations made by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC).
Minister de Silva said that they also planned to brief the diplomats on the mega development that was mooted in the North and East and also the false propaganda carried out by certain sections against Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile the Presidents envoy Minister Samarasinghe, who is scheduled to address the High Level segment of the sessions on Monday (27) at 3:00 p.m., is preparing to present the National Action Plan on Human Rights (NAPHR) to the UNHRC.
The Inter Ministerial Committee appointed to implement the National Action Plan has held its first meeting recently under the chairmanship of Minister Samarasinghe and proposed that a small task force under the Inter Ministerial Committee should meet regularly to expedite and monitor action on the Plan.
The Minister has appointed parliamentarian and former head of the Peace Secretariat Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha to convene the Task Force with former Attorney General Mohan Peiris as Secretary. The Task Force is to report regularly to the Inter-Ministerial Committee.
