Russian University honours Lankan Ambassador [February 23 2013]

Sri Lanka's Ambassador in the Russian Federation Udayanga Weeratunga has been awarded an Honorary Professorship by the Kursk State Medical University.

Two personalities were honoured by the central administrative body of the University at the occasion, held before a gathering of ambassadors, university professors and political heads of diverse representation. Governor of Kursk Region Alexander Mikhailov was the other distinguished personality who was honoured with the professorship on the occasion which was organised to celebrate the 78th anniversary of the university.

The University has recognised Weeratunga's endeavours to promote Russian education and training for Sri Lankans. Being a graduate of Russia, his efforts have crossed linguistic boundaries and extended more opportunities to Lankan students.

The Ambassador in his speech emphasised that the award would be for all Lankan students in Russia.
