Half a million cash robbed from Seenigama Temple [May 05 2013]

Over Rs. 500,000 has been robbed from famous Seenigama Devalaya. The thieves had broken into the Seenigama Temple in Hikkaduwa and stolen a gunny filled with cash, estimated over a half a million rupees.

Mitiyagoda and Elpitiya police stations are investigating the incident that had taken place last night. The thieves had entered the room where money is stored by removing tiles from the roof and making a hole in the ceiling, police sources said.

Police suspect that the robbery was planned by persons who know about the room where the cash is stored and the temple in general. It was only two months ago that a new caretaker was appointed for the temple that is dedicated to the Devol Deviyo.
