Thailand to promote investments in Sri Lanka [May 31 2013]

The Thai government will encourage their investors to make use of the opportunities that Sri Lanka has to offer, Thailand Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has said meeting President Mahinda Rajapaksa this morning at the Presidential Secretariat.

Thai PM Shinawatra has highlighted the importance of promoting more business opportunities in the small and medium industrial sectors between the two countries, according to the Official Website of the Presidential Secretariat.

According to the website enhancing defence and security relations between Sri Lanka and Thailand was emphasised during the discussions of the two leaders.

"We share same cultural and religious values and also the commitment to peace and democracy," Prime Minister Shinawatra has said addressing the event.

During her visit to the Presidential Secretariat, 260 scholarships were given to mark the 260 anniversary of the establishment of Siyam Nikaya.

Following bilateral discussions, Sri Lanka and Thailand signed four Memorandum of Understandings on visa exemption for diplomats and official passport holders, tourism cooperation, scientific and technological cooperation and commerce and banking cooperation.

Thailand Prime Minister Shinawatra and a group of delegates arrived in Sri Lanka this morning for a two day visit.
