Over 11, 000 deaths due to terrorism in 2012 [June 01 2013]

A total of 6,771 terrorist attacks have occurred worldwide last year, states the Country Reports on Terrorism 2012 that was issued yesterday by the US State Department.

On average, there have been more than 564 attacks, nearly 925 deaths, and more than 1,804 injuries per month in 2012 around the world.

According to the report these attacks have caused more than 11,000 deaths and more than 21,600 injuries. Each attack on an average has caused 1.64 fatalities and 3.2 injuries, including perpetrator casualties, according to the report. In addition, more than 1,280 people were kidnapped or taken hostage.

Analysing the statistics the report states that half of all targets (50.5%) were classified as either private citizens and property or police.
