Badulla railway line blocked by a broken down lorry [June 22 2013]

The movement on the Badulla – Colombo railway line is temporarily halted after a broken down lorry carrying a large stock of cement had obstructed the track in Bandarawela this morning, the police said.

Colombo bound Podi Menike train from Badulla had been stopped at Bandarawela since 10.00am due to this, Railway Control Room said.

Authorities are currently engaged in unloading the lorry carrying approximately 17tons of cement in order to clear the rail road.

A failure of the brakes had caused the vehicle to crash into the railway gate and a tyre had also burst as a result, the police said.
