At least three persons were killed and 20 others sustained injuries when a bus carrying a group skidded off the road and crashed in to a tree in Kotaleeya area in Polonnaruwa early this morning, the police said.
The group of Samurdhi Development Officers who returning from Colombo were reportedly bound for Batticaloa. The casualties comprising 10 males and 08 females were admitted to Polonnaruwa Hospital.
The killed victims had been identified as Sundaram Pillai Udaya Kumar (31), Velupillari Sivaratnam (42) and Perimbal Sadesan (42) including the driver of the bus.
