New Army Chief assumes duties

<P>Lieutenant General Daya Rathnayake assumed duties as the new Army Commander this morning.  

<P>The formal event took place at the Army Headquarters in the presence of other senior military officials.  

<P>Before assuming the Commander post, Lt. Gen. Rathnayake served as the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army.  

<P>Following the change of positions Major General Krishantha de Silva is appointed as the Chief of Staff. Maj. Gen. de Silva was the former chief of the Armys Volunteer Forces.
