Transporting sand only at night from Matale, Polonnaruwa

<P>Sand transported from Matale and Polonnaruwa areas will only be permitted during the nigh time with effect from August 01, according to the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau.  

<P>Transporting sand from those areas to Colombo and other main towns of the country will be permitted only from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.  

<P>Holding a press conference today at the GSMB office in Pitakotte, Chairman Senarath Jayasundara informed the media about the new changes happening in issuing permits to transport sand.  

<P>Since major part of the sand used in the country come from Matale and Polonnaruwa districts the GSMB has taken the decision to implement the new regulation in these areas. At present, in the other parts of the country, sand can only be transported during the day time.
