A 42-year-old disabled soldier was killed in a hit and run accident in Madurankuliya area in Chilaw this morning, the police said.
The victim named M M P Shantha Kumara, formerly attached to Panagoda Army Camp was hit by a speeding car while crossing the road. The car bound for Chilaw from Puttalam had sped without stopping.
The fleeing car and its driver was however nabbed by the police at a roadblock in Mundel area shortly after the accident.
The driver will be produced in Puttalam Magistrate Courts and the victims body is remaining at Puttalam Hospital Morgue.
