At least 37 wooden houses were completely destroyed when a fire broke out in a line of shanty houses in Gemunupura in Mattakkuliya on Friday night leaving 165 persons displaced.
The fire broke out in one of the houses had spread within a short period. People in the area had tried to douse the fire but failing to do so had summoned the fire brigade, the police said.
