A family was hacked by a man over a personal dispute who was subsequently assaulted by a member of the same family in Karandeniya last night.
The suspect armed with a machete had stormed his rivals house and had hacked him causing fatal injuries. He had then hacked the victims wife and tried to hack their son, the police said.
The latter had however managed to escape and subsequently assaulted the suspect with a wooden pole. The injured had been admitted to Balapitiya Hospital.
The victim had been identified as Suduwahakuru Wimaladasa (57). The suspect is being treated under the police custody.
