Sampur power plant : agreement signed by next week [October 03 2013]

The official agreement between Sri Lanka and India to set up the Sampur Power Plant will be signed by next week , according to sources of the Ministry of Power and Energy.

The Ceylon Electricity Board will sign on behalf of the Sri Lankan Government while the National Thermal Power Corporation of India will sign on behalf of the Indian Government. The power plant will contribute 500 Mega Watts of electricity power to the National Grid.

The cost of the project is estimated to be Rs. 600 million. According to the agreement the construction work must begin within a year. A separate institute set up by the CEB and the NTPC will manage the power plant.
