A 27-year-old man was shot dead and three others managed to escape unhurt when an unidentified gang opened fire at them near the Baseline Road Kelani Valley railway crossing last night, the police said.
The victim named Thebuwana Arachchige Sajith Priyantha was driving a car along with three others when they came under attack around 11.45pm.
The driver who sustained serious injuries died after admitted to Colombo National Hospital. The rest of the passengers had managed to flee the scene, the police spokesman said.
The victim was a resident of Serpentine Road, Borella. His body remains in the hospital morgue. Borella Police is conducting investigations.
