Gold cables seized at BIA [November 02 2013]

A local male who attempted to smuggle three gold cables worth of Rs.2.5million inserted into the edges of his bag was thwarted by the Customs at the Bandaranaike International Airport last night.

Customs Media Spokesman Director Leslie Gamini said it is the latest modes operandi adopted by the perpetrators to smuggle gold out of the country under the nose of the law enforcing authorities.

The suspect had tried to leave for Bangalore, India on UL171 flight. The Customs forfeited the gold and imposed a fine of Rs.50, 000 on the suspect, Director Gamini said.
