Security up to Commonwealth standards - CDS

[November 06 2013]

Security for delegates attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting is well established fulfilling the Commonwealth standards, said Chief of Defence Staff General Jagath Jayasuriya.

A special committee headed by General Jayasuriya was established by the Sri Lankan Government to plan the massive security requirement for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2013. The committee includes top brass of the Tri-services and Police.

"Police will do the main role in implementing the security network. This is a peaceful, democratic country so it is the responsibility of the Police to ensure security in civil matters," said Gen. Jayasuriya.

"Military will not be seen as they have already completed the ground work to establish the security network. Military will be involved in securing outer perimeters," he added.
