A 41-year-old Russian national who had been treated in the hospital since last Friday after being saved from drowning in seas off Hikkaduwa succumbed to his ailments yesterday, the police said.
The victim named Oleg Lemonin had been residing at the Apollo Hotel in Wewala, Hikkaduwa prior to the incident.
His body remains at the morgue of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle for further inquiries, the police said.
