Nationwide survey on war deaths and disappearances [November 28 2013]

The government is to launch a nationwide survey to determine the number of persons died and disappeared during the three decade old war according to a recommendation by the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC).

The survey has been recommended in the action plan prepared by the task force appointed to implement the LLRC recommendations, under the supervision of its head Presidential Secretary Lalith Weeratunga.

The survey in the form of a census will be carried out by the Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs and the Department of Census and Statistics to collect detailed information on the deaths, missing persons, injured and/or disabled persons, and damages to the property caused by the war between 1989 to 2009.
