Budget second reading passed by 99 votes [November 29 2013]

The vote on the Second Reading of the Budget 2014 was passed in Parliament by a majority of 99 votes.

154 votes were received in favour of the budget while 55 votes were cast against it. The UNP, DNA and TNA voted against the budget.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as the Finance and Planning Minister presented budget proposals to Parliament on November 21 and debate on the Second Reading continued for seven days including today. The Third Reading of the budget 2014 is scheduled to be commenced on Monday (December 02) and will continue for 16 days until December 20. The final vote of the budget 2014 is scheduled to be taken up on December 20 at 6.00 pm.

Meanwhile Chief Opposition Whip John Amaratunga asked for a division.
