Special unit to collect information on BMICH fire [November 30 2013]

Two investigations are conducted on the fire erupted at the BMICH, said Technology and Research Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.

The fire broke out at one of the exhibition stalls of the “Sahasak Nimewum” - the national innovations exhibition and competition organised by the Ministry of Technology and Research.

The Ministry has set up a special unit to collect information of the damaged properties of the innovators. The Government Analyst Department and the BMICH Management will be conducting two investigations with the assistance of the Criminal Investigations Department and the Sri Lanka Police.

Despite the damage the exhibition will continue in three exhibition sites at the BMICH. No injuries to persons were reported due to the fire.

Speaking to the media today Minister Ranawaka said that they will take all necessary steps to encourage the innovators whose exhibits were destroyed by the fire and take action to repair them. The Ministry and the Sri Lanka Inventors Commission will take every possible step to extend assistance to the inventors who participated at the event, Minister Ranawaka said.

This is the second Sahasak Nimewum exhibition organised by the Ministry and the Sri Lanka Inventors Commission.
