Drug importer arrested for altering the expiry dates [December 05 2013]

A local pharmaceutical company engaged in altering the expiry dates of a batch of medicines were raided by Walana Panadura Anti-Vice Detection Unit today in Nawala, the police said.

The vice squad along with the members of the Ministry of Health raided a place in Kirimandala Mawatha and arrested two employees engaged in changing the expiry dates of a batch of Hydroson Ointment.

The police found 4814 boxes of ointment on which the expiry dates had been changed along with 10, 000 more empty boxes prepared ready with the new dates on them.

Legal action will be taken against three directors and two staff members of the pharmaceutical company.
